“Not good enough” – Bristol City boss Pearson unhappy with his side after 4-1 loss at Millwall

Nigel Pearson was upset with Bristol City’s performance and labelled them “not good enough” after Millwall thrashed his side 4-1 at The Den on Saturday.

Tommy Conway had cancelled out Jed Wallace’s opener, but goals from Scott Malone, Billy Mitchell and Tom Bradshaw ensured the Lions secured all three points.

City manager Pearson said: “It’s another day where we’re not good enough.

“There were too many individual mistakes, not enough collective resistance against a Millwall side that played pretty well. We had our opportunities but unfortunately we’ve once again allowed our opponents to score far too easily and that’s a big problem for us at the moment.

“[Asked about Millwall’s first goal] We didn’t track runners, if you see where their runners came from, they came from the other side of our players and they simply didn’t track them. Millwall have everyone back from set plays and we didn’t track runners, it’s as simple as that. There’s nothing else to say apart from, players who let players run past them, it’s not good enough.

“I’m aware of what our problems are.

“Our current situation, is that we have a lot of players out injured. We have a lot of players who are out of contract in the summer. We have an unusual situation but I see that as an opportunity, days like today help make your mind up on players.

“[Asked about Tomas Kalas’s mistake that lead to Millwall’s fourth] I can’t put it down to a lack of confidence, players have to accept responsibility for their mistakes and we’ll see whether he reacts in the right way if he’s selected next week.”
