Oxford boss Karl Robinson gives his verdict on late penalty drama in Charlton match
Karl Robinson praised Oxford keeper Jack Stevens for his vital late penalty save to deny Charlton Athletic maximum points.
Ronnie Schwartz took an injury-time spot-kick for the Addicks after Jayden Stockley was brought down. But Stevens dived to his left to turn the Danish frontman’s strike over his bar as the League One contest ended 0-0.
Oxford boss Robinson, facing his former club, said: “It’s a great save. But that’s his job. That’s what they are paid to do. Goalkeepers make saves – if they didn’t they wouldn’t be playing in goal. That’s 11 clean sheets in 18 games for him and we’ve only been beaten twice in that run.
“We’re defending really well. We know it will click and there is more to come in the final third.
“Charlton are a good team. And you know you’re going to have to play well to get anywhere near them. We did for large parts of the game.”
