Plymouth Argyle boss gives his verdict after they knock Charlton out of FA Cup

Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe reckoned they were “good value” as they booked their FA Cup second round spot with a 1-0 win at Charlton yesterday.

Luke Jephcott’s goal on the hour mark decided the contest at The Valley.

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer made wholesale changes for the tie in SE7.

But Lowe pointed out they had Wales internationals such as Jonny Williams, Dylan Levitt and Adam Matthews in their starting line up.

The Argyle chief said: “They made some changes but there were some international players in there. That’s what they’ve used their squad for.

“I felt that we don’t play until next Monday and I want to keep a winning mentality and momentum [by going with a strong line-up] – it builds a lot of confidence.

“We warranted the win today. We were value for money. We were excellent in parts. First half we were very good and should’ve scored. We had loads of possession against a very good team and created lots of chances – 11 shots in the first half to their none, or one.

“We could’ve done a bit better in possession in the first 15 minutes but once we got the hang of it and we knew they’d be playing a diamond – the deep midfielder getting into the back four and receiving passes – it caused us a few problems at times.

“I was always confident we’d score. I think you always are with the strikers we’ve got and creative players.

“The back lads were tremendous for us again.

“We should have scored another one at the end.

“I treat the FA Cup with massive, massive respect. It’s one of the best competitions in the world. I’m looking forward to the draw.”
