QPR boss Mark Warburton gives verdict on supporters returning for Reading match

BY NICK KITUNO

Mark Warburton praised the Queens Park Rangers fans on their return but said he was disappointed not to gift them with three points.

Substitute Michael Olise snatched all three points for Reading late on when he curled home the winner only a minute of normal time to spare.

QPR had looked to have edged in front earlier on but Ilias Chair’s effort came back off the post, with fans convinced he had hit the back of the net. The Royals would hold on and claim a vital win in their quest for promotion.

Warburton was pleased with the atmosphere fans generated on their first game back since lockdown, but added the defeat left him “disappointed”.

He said: “The fans were tremendous. Obviously losing the game ourselves, but the biggest disappointment was not to give the fans three points. You heard the noise they generated.

“It’s great to hear the proper football fans, the noise at the right time, and I mean that in all its sincerity. Sometimes when it’s pre-recorded you don’t get the same atmosphere, but today they were superb.

“You just want to give them three points.

“I hope very much they saw the effort, they saw some good quality, they saw what it means to the players, but ultimately they are football fans who want to see their team win.

“Today they leave disappointed and that’s very frustrating for us.”
