QPR boss Mark Warburton linked with England U21 job
Mark Warburton has been linked with the England U21 job, with Aidy Boothroyd likely to be axed after a disastrous European Championship campaign.
The QPR manager was mooted as a contender for the role while in charge of Glasgow Rangers.
Warburton was believed to have been in the running to be the FA’s new technical director in 2018 before Les Reed’s appointment.
Former Chelsea and Derby boss Frank Lampard and Swansea’s Steve Cooper have also been linked.
Boothroyd said: “I know the England senior men’s job has been called the impossible job, I think the England U21s job is the utterly impossible job.
“The reason I say that is because of the amount of players that have to be produced for the senior team and the fact we are expected to win. There’s a reason we haven’t won this [tournament] for 37 years and why we haven’t progressed as much as we thought we would. Part of that is because our primary aim is to get players through to Gareth [Southgate] and that’s what we’ve done.”
QPR are at home to Coventry today.
