QPR forward set to feature for U23s as he closes in on first-team return

BY NICK KITUNO

George Thomas will feature for Queens Park Rangers’ development side this week as he continues his return from injury.

The former Leicester City forward joined on a free transfer this summer, but has not played since Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on September 26.

QPR boss Mark Warburton says Thomas, who has remained sidelined with a thigh problem since then, needs to build up match fitness before returning to the first-team squad.

He said: “He’ll play with the 23s on Tuesday. Ideally, you’d have two U23s games – 60, 75 [minutes] – and be ready, but with a game every three days we haven’t got that luxury.

“He’ll play on Tuesday, get a good hour into his legs, and then be available for selection from there.”

QPR’s U23s face Colchester United’s development squad tomorrow.
