Rugby union: Dons defeat Tring to keep title hopes alive
Wimbledon kept alive their hopes of topping the London & SE Premier League table with a 36-12 home win over Tring last weekend.
It took a while for the South London club to match their opponents’ power in the scrum but they got their first try on the half-hour mark as flanker Kane Alboni touched down.
A 40-metre rampage by lock Alex Campbell helped pave the way for Jack Reville to outsprint Tring’s defence. James Moffat nailing the conversion to lead 12-7 at the break.
Steve Boatman sprinted the final 35 metres for try number three and he played a part as the Dons stretched their lead, Chris York drawing the defence before Kain Rix finished off the move, Moffat again converting.
It was 31-7 soon after as Rix and Moffat struck again.
JC Sagoe darted if for Wimbledon’s sixth try with a late injury to centre Paul Hendry the only negative.
The Dons head to Bedford Athletic on Saturday.
