Sheffield Wednesday 0 Millwall 0 – Stalemate at Hillsborough

Millwall missed the chance to keep the pressure up on those above them in the Championship table after failing to find a breakthrough at Hillsborough.
The Lions had a golden chance to win the game in the dying moments but Jon Dadi-Bodvarsson was unable to convert when through one on one with Cameron Dawson.
The draw leaves Millwall ninth in the Championship table, five points off the top six.
Lions boss Gary Rowett made three changes to the side that lost at Leeds. Shane Ferguson, Shaun Williams and Matt Smith came into the side. Jayson Molumby, Alex Pearce and Jon Dadi-Bodvarsson all dropped to the bench.
The visitors made the better start, but failed to create a real opportunity until 19 minutes in. A Sheffield Wednesday free-kick was easily cleared. Shane Ferguson came away with the ball and had Jed Wallace ahead of him but couldn’t get the ball through to him in time.
On 33 minutes Mahlon Romeo tried his luck from outside the box but his effort was over the bar. Millwall’s pressing was causing the home side problems and Dominic Iorfa was forced to clear a tantalising Jed Wallace cross.
The hosts finally came alive on 42 minutes. Moses Odubajo’s cross to the back post beat the Millwall defence but Atdhe Nuhiu was unable to get there in time to put the ball in the net.
The second half started with Wednesday on top, but they failed to trouble Bart Bialkowski in the Millwall goal. Iorfa came the closest to breaking the deadlock on 63 minutes when he turned and shot inside the box but couldn’t keep his effort on target.
On 68 minutes, the Owls went close again. A quick free-kick came to Barry Bannan who was inside the box but drilled his effort wide. The Lions went close down the other end, substitute Connor Mahoney’s cross was just about scrambled away by the Wednesday defence, but Tom Bradshaw felt he had been impeded by Moses Odubajo which meant he was unable to turn the ball into the net. Referee David Coote was unmoved.
Owls substitute Fernando Forestieri had the best chance for the hosts. Millwall were caught up the pitch, Forestieri found himself with time and space on the right of Millwall’s defence, but he curled an effort comfortably into Bart Bialkowski’s hands when he perhaps should have done better.
Millwall had a golden chance to win the match with the last kick of the game, substitute Dadi-Bodvarsson was through one on one with Cameron Dawson but looped his shot over the bar.
