Sunny Edwards to face Jesse Rodriguez in flyweight world title unification
Sunny Edwards will face Jesse Rodriguez next in a flyweight unification clash.
Edwards, raised in Croydon, will put his IBF world title on the line with Texan Rodriguez the reigning WBO belt-holder.
Matchroom Boxing will stage the contest with the Brit set to travel abroad to try and add another title to his collection.
“For me it is one of the best fights in boxing,” said Matchroom supremo Hearn. “I’m so happy.
“Sunny Edwards-Jesse Rodriguez is signed. Not terms agreed – signed. It is going to take place in November, December on the West Coast of America. It’s going to be part of our slate, that we hope to announce soon, of August to November fights.
“Big respect for both. I’ve wanted to see this fight for a long time. When we didn’t have Sunny I wasn’t so keen – because I know it’s a 50-50 fight. Looking to see who the best is in the division. You’ve got Julio Cesar Martinez as well. We want one champion.”
