BY DENIS COSTELLOE

Annis Frimpong, 13, is the new Catford Wanderers ladies club champion after defeating Julia Garling, a more experienced previous winner.

Frimpong is the youngest to claim the title in the club’s 104-year history.

Although she started rather nervously, the youngster put aside her 4-6 first set defeat to move up a gear and take the second set 6-1.

She went on to dominate the tie break (10-5) to take the trophy.

A new name will also appear on the men’s singles winners board. Julian Langley and Leigh Cole, both in their first final, fought out a most entertaining three setter with Langley taking the honours 6-7 6-2 (10 -2).

Garling and Stephanie James won the ladies doubles. Garling teamed up with Martin O’Brien to win the mixed.

The Dave Elkins competition went to Paul Coletti and Julie Taylor, who got the better of Gerry Taylor and Jayne Qureshi (7-5 6-4).
