‘They make it hostile’ – Wycombe boss has message for his players ahead of Charlton return play-off leg clash
Mike Dodds has talked about how he wants his Wycombe Wanderers players to approach Thursday’s League One play-off second leg at Charlton Athletic.
The two clubs scrapped out a 0-0 draw at Adams Park on Sunday evening.
Charlton collected 51 points at The Valley this season – a haul only bettered by the three sides that finished above them.
Chairboys head coach Dodds said: “They will fancy their chances because they are at home and they make it hostile. They’ll make it loud.
“I just said to the players, it will be a big piece to us, we’ve got to separate the two pieces for the evening. The game will be the game and the occasion will be the occasion. I know that’s really difficult but we have to separate those two things and concentrate on the game and how important the game is.

“They will fancy their chances – but we fancy our chances.
“It was two really, really good teams battling it out. I said it before the game, Nathan Jones is a very, very good coach and his teams are really well-organised. We looked really organised. We did all the nuts and bolts miles better than we did when we played them previously.
“What you get, fortunately or unfortunately however you want to look at it, is two teams cancelling each other out.
“Dan Udoh had a big chance first half. Goals change games. Will (Norris) had to come up with a big save for us. They will probably look at their chance and think it’s a big chance – I’ll look at our chance and think it is a big chance.
“We’ve generally set up really well since I’ve been at the football club. We were a lot more aggressive in terms of the midfield and not letting it pick passes. We executed that really, really well. We were waiting for a moment but unfortunately that moment didn’t come.”
