This Dulwich Hamlet player has upped his game since doubts over future emerged

Dulwich Hamlet manager Gavin Rose reckons Anthony Cook has produced an upturn in displays since being transfer-listed.

The former Ebbsfleet winger, 29, is one of three players at the National League South side who are available – Ashley Carew and Sanchez Ming the others.

But Rose admits that Cook is beginning to deliver what is expected of him.

“He has taken the disappointment of being transfer- listed really well and his attitude and commitment have been spot – on and he’s done remarkably well in the last few games,” Rose said.

“I’m not surprised, because he’s always been a hard worker. It was just that his form hadn’t been good after arriving here from Ebbsfleet and he under- performed, by and large, much as the team has done. We expected a little more for him.

“To be fair, he sees himself as a winger and we’ve been using him as a wing-back, so maybe that dented his form a bit.

“It’s still a case that if someone comes in for him who is right for Anthony, he could leave, but it is not a priority. People’s minds can change. He’s been playing, and he’s been playing much better.”

Hamlet were hoping to add to their squad as our paper went to press. Rose said he was looking at “three or four players”, including a midfielder and strikers from higher divisions.

Dulwich could do with the impetus of fresh faces, given that Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat by Chelmsford City – Nathan Green scoring Hamlet’s goal – made it six without a win in the league and only one victory in 11.

Not that Rose was too disheartened. He felt his side did well, considering they had Michael Chambers sent off after only 33 minutes.

“We performed really well overall, especially before we lost a man to a dubious decision,” said Rose. “We were very much in the game and I’m very happy with our effort.

“I feel 100 per cent we can turn our season around in the second half of the season.”

Dulwich are at Concord Rangers, who are on the fringes of the play-off places, tomorrow.
