‘Tough and exciting’ – Nathan Jones primed for Charlton Athletic transfer window action

Nathan Jones has talked about his workload staying hectic this summer as Charlton look to have the vast majority of their incoming business done in the opening month of the transfer window.

The summer recruitment period opens on June 1 but the reality is that clubs are already lining up additions and cracking on with negotiations.

Charlton also have a number of players due to be out of contract – including centre-backs Terell Thomas and Michael Hector. Addicks boss Jones is set to sit down next week with those individuals who are poised to soon be free agents.

The Addicks have five loan signings all returning to their parent clubs.

“The transfer windows are always tough and they are exciting – especially when you see players land and how your squad is shaping up,” said Jones.

“It is hard work and probably as time-consuming a time for me when everyone else has holidays – I’m travelling the country, I’m having meetings and persuading, on the phone. That is what the life of a manager is.

“This time is so essential. We come back on June 27, or whenever it is, and I’d like us to be almost complete as a squad. There is always maybe one, two maximum, that you haven’t quite got in.

“But I want us to be as complete as we possibly can be so they get a full pre-season, the full games programme and we’re able to effect as many as we can moving forward into the August start.”
