‘Vast experience in a key position’ – Ross County boss on signing Wimbledon defender Nightingale
Will Nightingale has joined Ross County on a six-month loan.
The 27-year-old centre-back has spent his entire career at AFC Wimbledon and made 204 appearances.
Nightingale has taken the decision to make a temporary exit to get more regular game time.
Ross County manager Malky Mackay said: “I am delighted to bring Will Nightingale to the Highlands. He has been a stalwart at Wimbledon for over a decade – their captain, leader and talisman.
“He will also bring a freshness to the club as well as vast experience in a key position.
“He is another strong character we have added to this group and we are very excited to see him in the SPFL.
“Will has shown incredible loyalty to Wimbledon, this is his first venture away from his home, and we are delighted to bring him into our family.”
Nightingale has battled back from a number of major knee injuries that have disrupted his career.
He signed a contract extension in March 2022 extending his Wimbledon contract until the summer of 2025.
Wimbledon have added to their defensive options with the additions of Stockport duo Joe Lewis, on a season-long loan, and Ryan Johnson, who was available as a free agent.
