Welling’s Archie Sharp wins WBO European title – with Greenwich heavyweight Daniel Dubois taken to points for first time

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Archie Sharp won the WBO European super-featherweight title on Saturday as he won a unanimous decision over Leon Woodstock at Leicester Arena.

The unbeaten 23-year-old from Welling chalked up his 14th straight win.

All three judges made Sharp the winner by 96-93 on their scorecards.

Hometown fighter Woodstock was knocked down early in the contest but came back from that early setback as the pair put on a terrific clash where the styles gelled. There is bound to be talk of a rematch because of the entertainment levels provided – and it undoubtedly was the best bout on an underwhelming Frank Warren show.

Undefeated Greenwich heavyweight Daniel Dubois had gone the distance with cagey American veteran Kevin Johnson earlier in the night.

It was a one-way barrage from the 21-year-old prospect as Johnson showed no ambition to do anything other than survive.

Dubois won 100-91 on points, going the distance for the first time in his explosive career.
