Wilfried Zaha wants Crystal Palace exit – as manager Roy Hodgson makes admission over attacker’s form
Roy Hodgson says Wilfried Zaha wants to quit Crystal Palace this summer – and reckons his form since the Premier League campaign restarted has been below par.
The 27-year-old Ivory Coast international is under contract until June 2023.
Zaha earns more than a six-figure sum and the figures involved to make a deal happen have scuppered exits before.
He has previously submitted a transfer request and was keen on a switch to Everton.
Arsenal have also previously been linked with Zaha, who has scored 57 goals in 362 matches for the Eagles.
He netted four times in 38 Premier League matches this season.
“I think he’s making it pretty clear that he’d like to move,” Palace manager Hodgson told talkSPORT.
“I think he made it very clear last season, we got a good tune out of him for two-thirds of the season.
“I don’t think he’s been anything like as good as he can be during this Covid period but he’s really had to do a job up front all on his own so he will say: ‘I needed more help if you want to see the best of me’.
“But he’s a very valuable player, a very valuable player for us and he’s still got a good transfer value so what will happen I really can’t say.
“It’s a question for Wilf and a question for the club.
“We don’t know as yet what the alternatives are going to be open to Wilf at the end of the season, other than the fact he’s still got several years of his contract left to run.”
Roy had better look in the mirror. Zaha has been their best player. Sakho and Ayew received evaluations of four from Joe Doyle from one of the major newspapers. Sakho was responsible for the first three goals. He fell down for one. He couldn’t jump defending a header goal for number two. He took down an attacker in the penalty area for goal number three.—-A coach is judged by his personnel. Sakho is through. Ayew works hard but is useless in front of the goal. That leaves Benteke as the albatross which the entire team has been carrying around for two years. This is year three.—It is all about Benteke’s Bentley and not the team. He should have been gone long ago. When the team was floundering, there was Zaha even with a scowl on his face. Roy has a whole lot of nerve going after Wilf. Again, he needs to look in the mirror. No offense means that you play for a draw.
