Women’s football: Crystal Palace end 2019 with heavy defeat to Durham
Crystal Palace could not finish off their 2019 on a happy note as they lost 4-1 at home to Durham in the FA Women’s Championship.
Beth Hepple scored a hat-trick for the Wildcats with Becky Salicki also on target.
Former Charlton forward Amber Stobbs (pictured), who signed for Palace earlier this month, scored in the 75th minute.
Stobbs said: “Knowing Durham have travelled a long way and we’re at home, we should have started better.
“There was a good reaction at half-time, the second-half was a different game for us. Sometimes if you don’t start a game right, you’re constantly playing catch-up.
“Mentally, we need to start on a better note.
“This is my first game here. I’ve been here for a few weeks and I’ve settled in well. It’s a great group. We’re all on the same page.
“The club is at a turning point. I was looking to start in January, but I’d rather have a game and then four weeks off. I feel at home.”
Charlton’s fixture at Lewes Women was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
