Millwall manager Neil Harris on Steve Morison’s return to the starting line-up

Millwall manager Neil Harris revealed that Steve Morison had “the hump” when he was replaced in tonight’s 2-0 win over Birmingham City.

The striker missed the defeat at Brentford with a stomach muscle tear but had a huge hand in Maxime Colin’s own goal early in the second-half.

His 73rd-minute replacement Tom Elliott saw his shot pushed out by Tomasz Kuszczak for Ryan Tunnicliffe to open his goal account for the South Londoners.

“Steve trained all week,” said Harris. “We really played it down because we didn’t want to put pressure on him.

“I felt after the last two defeats I needed some leadership – senior players on the pitch. He has a big heart. He wants to play, he had the right hump when I took him off.

“He doesn’t want to come off the pitch. Tom Elliott came on and was also superb. Our three strikers all led the line really well.”

Harris explained how Tunnicliffe had done extra work on his game this week to help him bed into the Millwall midfield.

The former Manchester United and Fulham man has stepped into the side since Shaun Williams’ knee injury.

“We had a learning week – going back to basics,” said Harris. “When you take Shaun out of the team we all have to adjust because he knits us together. Tunni is a really good footballer but when you play here you have to adjust. I signed him because I know he can do it.”
